NEWPORT BEACH, CA. JUNE 23rd, 2013 — O’Connell Racing (OCR), a professional motorsports company based in Southern California announced today that driver Kevin O’Connell finished the NASCAR Xfinity Series racing event at Road America in 22nd position after a several setbacks for the team and driver.

In a late communication, O’Connell was contacted by representatives for the team owner of the #74 Mike Harmon Racing team to replace a current rookie driver from Mexico City to practice, qualify and race the car in the road course race in Wisconsin. Veteran NASCAR crew chief and driver Carl Long was hired to manage and call the race.

O’Connell commented, “We had a last minute chance to run the NASCAR race for Mike’s team and given my recent events at Road America in the Rolex Sports Car series with NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Timmy Hill and previous NASCAR and vintage races there I knew I could bring back a solid effort. I also wanted a chance to work with Carl on a road course race.”

The team chased a miss in the engine during qualifying and opted to attempt a repair prior to the race which per the NASCAR rules relegated the team to begin the race at the rear of the field. Kevin O’Connell stated, “Carl and I talked and we had to try to find the problem before the race. Starting at the back of the field was the least of our challenges as the race is long and we expected many cautions. We never really fixed the problem but the car held together and we finished the race. Turns out there was an internal problem with the engine.”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series has two other road course events in 2013 with Watkins Glen International and the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, both scheduled in August.

About Shania Kids Can
Shania Kids Can is a program designed for kids at primary school level who are having personal problems at home. As a result these children often have difficulties functioning at their full potential in the school environment either socially, behaviorally, academically or all three. Children with personal life challenges might come to school with low self-esteem, depressed, tired or hungry – not ideal for taking in the joy of learning, the security of community and the pleasure of friendship. The Shania Kids Can Foundation educates, inspires and empowers children in their communities to achieve their full potential by increasing their chances of equality and opportunities for success. By helping less fortunate children reach their personal best in their daily lives at primary school age; this may likely prevent the less positive alternative that too many children of lost potential face later in life …of becoming statistics that burden society rather than contributing to it.
